Using FamilySearch.org Notification

Updated: Oct 18

Life gets busy and the last thing we want to do is add more to our to-do list. One way FamilySearch.org has helped us to minimize the need to constantly check for changes to our ancestors' pages is by creating a notification of change system.

If you have not used this feature, I urge you to try it. Receiving email notification saves time from needing to log into FamilySearch.org to see what changes may have occurred. The system is very simple to use. After you log into your account, which is FREE by the way, you simply click on "Family Tree" on the top left. Followed by clicking on "Lists."

You will see two lists options you can view "People I'm Watching" and "Changes To People I'm Watching." Whenever I log into the website I like to view "Changes To People I'm Watching" because sometimes I forget to review the changes after I receive an email notification. This is a quick way to review changes that have been made on your ancestors' pages you are watching.

Sometimes the list contains people you do not remember adding or even how they are related to you. You can go to that person's page to use the "View My Relationship." You can simply remove them from your list by clicking "Unwatch" if they are someone you no longer wish to receive a notification on.

I personally love this feature because it helps me to be more productive and organized in my genealogy research. Have you use this tool or have you found value in additional tools available on FamilySearch.org that helps you with your genealogy research? I would love to hear about it.
