One of the easiest ways to show support on social media is by resharing content that resonates with you and can benefit others in your community. Whether it’s a post you found while scrolling through your feed, a resource shared by a page you follow, or a story that deeply inspired you, resharing allows you to amplify important messages in the genealogy community. Personally, I’m grateful to those who’ve reshared my posts, it’s helped my message reach a wider audience and connect with others interested in genealogy and family history.
It could be a piece of content that motivates me to continue my own family history journey, or an event I want to help promote from historical and genealogical societies. If I’m attending a genealogy event, I’ll mention it and ask if anyone else is going, fostering connections and collaboration. I also reshare important resources with a couple words about why I'm sharing a piece of content, such as new digital archives, uncovered documents, or genealogy tips that have helped deepen my research.
Recently, I’ve been resharing posts about budget cuts and program reductions affecting the genealogy community, as it's important we stay informed. Most of the time, if I stop to read, comment, or bookmark a post, it's because I believe it’s worth sharing with my followers.
I’ve learned not to assume that everyone is aware of everything happening within the genealogy community. It always surprises me when I mention something like Conference Keeper or new family history tools, and others ask, “What’s that?” This has inspired me to share more often because I want others to be as aware as I am about the ongoing developments in the genealogy world. Resharing is one way I can help bridge the knowledge gap and ensure the genealogy community stays informed and engaged.
By resharing content, you not only support those around you but also contribute to a broader conversation about genealogy research, family history, and the importance of preserving our shared past. So, next time something catches your eye, don’t hesitate to reshare it, it’s a simple yet impactful way to show you care and build a more connected genealogy community.
But remember, don’t overshare - it’s a real thing! Be mindful of how often and what content you’re resharing, ensuring it aligns with your message and adds value to your followers. Quality over quantity makes all the difference in keeping your community engaged and informed.
Is there someone whose content you always look forward to seeing in your feed? Let me know, I’d love to discover new genealogy experts and fresh perspectives!
